Illegal Operation Caused By Moving Multiple Brushes
Question Submitted By: Bug2U
Question originally submitted by Degasi:
For my first (admittedly ambitious) project, I am going to start working on a Dark Ages Instanbul (or Constantinople, whatever). As part of this, I am trying to build a mosque with a domed roof. I am creating a hollow building, then cutting and pasting it, and turning the copy into a 16 sided sphere. I then clip out the lower half and set it on top of the square building. I make it hollow and then click the CSG button. It actually works quite well, although I may spend the time to clip the roof of the square building instead of using the CSG command, to clean up the map. However, I complete tall select the finished structure and try to move it and get an illegal operation message. Is the editor trying to handle too many operations here? The base building is 800 X 800. I am running a brand new Alienware 1 Ghz Enhanced Athlon system with a GeForce 2 4X GTS 64 MB video card. Is this possibly a swap file issue? Any ideas?
Thanks, all....

Well, this could be alot of things, so here's a short list to check, and then you can repost with more info if it doesn't help.
I assume with the system you mentioned that you have 128+ MB of RAM, if not, RAM could cause this issue... also, swap files as you mentioned are important...
In addition, make sure that you are trying to just move the brushes, and not accidentally resizing them also, Embrace will really not like that...
Finally, a suggestion for you: when doing structures this complex, don't use CSGSubtract even if it's easier, cause it will create more brushes than if you do it by hand... and do make a structure of this type in a completely separate map and then copy and paste it when you are done.
Hope that helps
