Gangrel Protean and weapons?

My general WoD knowledge is spotty at best, but I do know that Protean in p&p is more like a targeted discipline with different effects for each level, not all of them combat related. I'm not sure about guns, but I think a Gangrel using Protean may be able to use other melee weapons as well.

On a more technical note, have you tested if frenzy is affected by the changes? It would be bad if the frenzy shadow didn't equip the claws.
