Question Submitted By: lazarus When making maps, I've noticed that sometimes a character will ignore a brush and clip right through it, while other times he will treat it as a solid object. I know about the "detail" option, but this is something different. I haven't been able to determine what factor makes a brush "solid" or not, but it can really screw up a map! Do you know what is the determining factor?
Answer Category: Mapping / Embrace
Unless you have set the brushes that you mention to "detail" or "noCSG", then the problem that you are having is with the pathing, created by the fact that there is a walkable surface somewhere within the brush that the character walks through.
To fix it, you are going to have to micromanage your pathing... For example, make sure that you set walkable on brush faces, not the whole brush to prevent the character from walking through stairs, etc. instead of on them. If you have say, a table, that should not be walked through, then put a brush that is not walkable underneath the table.
If you carefully tell the game exactly where the character can and can't walk, then your problems should disappear. Hope that helps
