Special thanks to RaggedRobin/Phoebe for help while making this tutorial. This tutorial is a sequel to the simple arches tutorial so it is recommended to read that one first.
How to make complex arches in Embrace
Part 2: Arches with an overhang
So we've made some simple arches. These are relatively easy to make. But what if we wanna do something a bit more visually interesting? Like an arch with an overhang? To use an example here's some pillary arches from the level Abandoned Subway.
Step 1. Same as before, make the base of the arch and the first segment
Step 2. In the 3D view drag out the top edges left and right. it's recommended to do this in the 3D view as in the 2d view it tends to cause the mesh to freak out a little.
Step 3. Create the next segment. Repeat what you did before.
Step 4. Create the "top" segment.
Step 5. Create as many segments as you need to reach the top segment and create a seamless transition.
Step 6. Duplicate the shape a few times to create a unique archway.
From here you can vary the shape up a little by adding even more shapes made using the Edge editor.
You can use the Edge editor to make a variety of complex shapes not just arches. Just remember to not be afraid to split up segments using the clipper or via duplicating.
